  1. On 17.2.2015 an inspection of Insein Central Prison was conducted. A recommendation was made to upgrade the 50 bed prison hospital and to appoint and fill up the vacancy for health personnel according to the organization set up. For the present, a dentist and a women’s doctor should be appointed soon. On 7.8.016, a reply was received from the Ministry of Home Affairs that a women doctor Dr. Than Sin Tha Win had arrived at the women’s ward in Insein prison and taken up her duties. The reply mentioned that as the dentist had been absent without leave, a request for a replacement had been submitted. It also mentioned that the need to appoint a doctor, health assistant and nurse had been submitted to the Ministry of Health through the Ministry of Home Affairs. The reply mentioned that the Directorate of Health is also allocating and transferring their health personnel depending on available manpower.
  2. On 7.5.015, an inspection of Mong Sat Prison was conducted. A recommendation was made to appoint and fill up the vacancy for an assistant medical doctor and other health personnel. On 7.8.2015, a reply was received from the Ministry of Home Affairs that a request had been made to the Ministry of Health to appoint the required medical doctor, health assistant and nurse and the Directorate of Health is also allocating and transferring their health personnel depending on available manpower.
  3. On 7.6.2015, an inspection of Mandalay Central Prison was conducted. Recommendations were made to urgently appoint and fill up the vacancy for a women’s doctor, to request the Ministry of Health for additional supply of hospital equipment and medicines. On 16.3.2016, a reply was received from the Ministry of Home Affairs that a request had made to the Ministry of Health to appoint and fill the vacancy for the women’s doctor. A request will also be made to the Ministry of Health for the supply of additional medical equipment and medicine.
  4. On 13.7.2015, an inspection of Tharyawaddy Central Prison was conducted. A recommendation was made to appoint and fill up the vacant posts of health personnel, dentist, women doctor and nurses, to install X-ray machine, and provide adequate medical equipment and medicines. On 31.8.2015, the Ministry of Home Affairs replied that at Tharyawaddy prison, the organizational set up comprices 15 health personnel and existing personnel consists of (1) hospital superintendent, (1) health assistant, (1) senior nurse who is attending the Nursing Science Degree training course and request has been submitted to the Ministry of Health for a replacement. As for appointing and filling up all the vacancies, the Ministry of Health replied that it will depend on the availability of manpower, and the supply of hospital equipment will depend on the allotment of budget.
  5. On 7.10.2015, an inspection of Kawthong prison was conducted. A recommendation was made to request the Ministry of Health for the supply of medicines from the Central Medical Storage Department to the prison hospital. On 28.5.2016, the Ministry of Home Affairs sent a reply that as there was no existing prison hospital, medicine was not supplied by the (CMSD), so arrangements will be made to obtain the medicines from Kawthong People’s Hospital.
