The inspection of Tharyarwady Central Prison and Daik U Central Prison

  1. The inspection teams led by the Commission Members of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC), U Kyaw Soe and U Tin Aung made the inspection visits to the Tharyarwady Central Prison on 16 June,2021 and the inspection teams led by the Commission Members of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC), U Kyaw Soe, U Tin Aung and U Kyaw Myint made the inspection visits to the Daik U Central Prison on 24 June 2021.
  2. During the inspection visits, in accordance with the provisions of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission Law, the inspection teams interviewed prisoners and detainees freely and privately group by group and asked them whether there is any problem to see their family members, the availability of appropriate facilities for them, whether there is health care or not, is there torture in prison and their living condition in the prison. The inspection teams also met with the prisoners and detainees who wish to meet with the team privately and recorded their reports.
  3. While inspecting the Central Prisons, the inspection teams inspected the sleeping quarters of the inmates, the apartments, the hospital, the Quarantine apartments, the library, the kitchen, the food store, the water tanks, the latrines and the arrangements to prevent COVID-19 pandemic.
  4. The findings and recommendations of the inspection teams will be put forward to the relevant departments for necessary actions.

Meeting between The Union Minister for Home Affairs an the MNHRC

  1. Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Commission Members Dr. Than Myint, Daw Nu Nu Yin and U Kyaw Myint of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC) met and discussed with Lieutenant General Soe Htut, Union Minister for Home Affairs and authorities on 16 June 2021 at the Minister’s Office of Home Affairs.
  1. In the meeting, the matters on the human rights promotion and protection activities undertaken by the MNHRC, the future plans of the MNHRC, the status of cooperation and the inspection of prisons, jails and detention centers by MNHRC were discussed.

The inspection of Labour Camps by the MNHRC in June 2021

  1. The inspection teams led by the Commission Members of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission ( MNHRC), U Kyaw Soe and U Tin Aung made the inspection visits to the Min Gone Labour Camp on 3 June,2021 and the Shwe Mya Yar and Hlay Hlaw Inn Labour Camp on 11 June 2021 and Taw Kyi Tan Labour Camp on 21 June 2021.
  2. During the inspection visits, in accordance with the provisions of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission Law, the inspection teams interviewed prisoners and detainees freely and privately group by group and asked them whether there is any problem to see their family members, the availability of appropriate facilities for them, whether there is health care or not, is there torture in Labour camp and their living condition in the labour Camp. The inspection teams also met with the prisoner and detainees who wishet with the team privately and recorded their reports.
  3. While inspecting the labour camps, the inspection teams inspected the sleeping quarters of the inmates, the kitchen, the food store, the water tanks, the latrines and the arrangement to prevent COVID-19 pandemic.
  4. The findings and recommendations of the inspection teams will be put forward to the relevant departments to take necessary actions.

The inspection of prison and police detention by the MNHRC in May 2021

  1. The inspection teams led by the Commission Members of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission ( MNHRC) made the inspection visits to the Sittwe Prison and the Sittwe Myo Ma police detention centers on 12 May 2021, Thandwe Prison and Thandwe Myo Ma police detention center and Jade-Taw police detention center on 19 may 2021 and Kyaukphyu Prison and Kyaukphyu Myo Ma police detention centers on 24 May 2021.
  2. During the inspection visits, in accordance with the provisions of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission Law, the inspection teams interviewed prisoners and detainees freely and privately group by group and asked them whether there is any problem to see their family members, the availability of appropriate facilities for them, whether there is health care or not, is there torture in prison and their living condition in the prison.
