MNHRC attends the Third Jakarta Human Rights Dialogue (JHRD)

The Third Jakarta Human Rights Dialogue (JHRD) on Rights to Life and Moratorium of Death Penalty in the ASEAN Region was held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 10-11 November 2014. U Soe Phone Myint, a member of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission attended the JHRD.

The JHRD was organized by the Indonesian Representative to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) with the support of the European Union (EU) and Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) where OHCHR Regional Representative, EU Special Representative for Human Rights, representatives from Indonesia, Cambodia, Philippines, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, UK, Africa, American and Europe, Commissioners of National Human Rights Institutions, representatives from civil societies and experts participated in the Dialogue.

In the Dialogue, discussions were made on the promotion and protection of human rights such as taking into consideration of and taking measures for the abolishment of death penalty in those ASEAN countries which have not yet abolished death penalty; ratification of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and related Second Optional Protocol; taking measures for establishment of National Human Rights Institutions in those ASEAN countries which have not yet established such Institutions; cooperation in the region in human rights matters and the exchange of information relating to human rights, including taking measures for the abolishment of death penalty in ASEAN region and moratorium of death penalty.­
