The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, with the cooperation of the Mon State Government, hold a Training Workshop on Human Rights for the departmental officials of the Mon State in Mawlamyine, Mon State from 28 to 30 July under the sponsorship of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Sweden. A total of 50 officials at the State, District and Township levels participated in the Workshop. U Sit Myaing, Secretary of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission and Members U Hla Myint and Dr. Nyan Zaw discussed and lectured on the Brief History and Concept of Human Rights, the Establishment of the MNHRC and its Activities, the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission Law, the Human Rights contained in the Convention on the rights of the Child, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, and the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities, to which Myanmar is a State Party, and the Complaints handling by the Commission at the Workshop. Colonel Htay Myint Aung, Minister for Security and Border Affairs of Mon State addressed the opening and closing sessions of the Workshop. During the Workshop, the participant officials enthusiastically and actively participated in the discussion of Human Rights related matters. The Commission plans to conduct similar workshops in the remaining six states.
